So I see all these 65-66 F100's( that is what I was asking) with 289's and more 302's and assumed these were all later engine swaps. I am going to search this but is there a way to tell if a truck and engine match in these models, from what I can tell most or ALOT anyway of these trucks have been piece milled . I am wanting one that is close to original but not necessarily a pristine example. I mean I want to put it back to stock with what it came with.

If you mean original options, yes, that is correct, as Mitch has pointed out.
But, do you mean options available in later models that are direct bolt-on solutions?
If that is your question, you can use any engine/transmission combination that was installed in trucks up to 1979, provided that you use the factory installation components.
In fact, that statement is true for power steering and power disc brakes up to '79 as well.

yea, that is what I was getting at. Does anyone keep the original type brakes on these trucks or is it the norm to go with the power brakes and steering. This will just be a first project and a cruise around driver.

If you got the p/s & brakes avaiable it greatly improves your ride performance.
My most recent ride; 65 f100 has a (76) 302 with a C6 trans running p/s and all drum brakes.
I don't/ didn't use the truck as a daily driver. But for Crusin & car shows etc.
Ford was not one for matching number mentality, like gm products.
As John mention; you can install numerous application ranging from / up to 79 series trucks.
P/s & brakes are a direct bolt on for 65 & up models.
Make sure you use the engine perches from whatever motor you install; its alot easier to have to drill only one or so bolt holes for the perches to mount; (if at all) than to modify a entire perch assembly.
