Tranny Questions?
I bought the truck about 3 years ago, when I had purchased it the previous original owner had had the transmission rebuilt 2 months prior. Gave me the paperwork on it and everything. I have only put about 60,000 miles on it since I purchased it. No off road'n, a little dune cruising, no jumping or pulling trailers. Probably 99% street driving. I do have 1 ton suspension under it and 33" tires now and a local shop said the tires are too big which IMO 33" tires would not burn up the e4od, this isn't my first e4od I have ran 33's no problem in the past.
Anyways, the transmission just seems to weakly shift into gears, doesn't slip out or take longer then it used to. And shifting into OD i have to slightly let my foot of the accelerator sometimes for it to shift. With only 60,000 miles on a rebuild I am having trouble thinking I burnt this tranny up already. I checked fluids and they look fine.
I was wondering since these are electronically controlled, could there be an electrical reason that this could be happening or is it time for a rebuild? Where I live I am getting quotes of anywhere from $1500-$2100 for an e4od rebuild and can't really afford that and if it's something like a plug or wire messed up it would be awesome if I could simply do it myself.
Thanks for any opinions and suggestions in advance!
Ryan
Even if the fluid looks good it's probably time for a full fluid/filter change. I would also recommend checking for stored error codes. In many cases there can be stored codes without turning on the Check Engine Light (CEL).
You really should have an external trans fluid cooler too. Heat is the number one enemy of the E4OD. Those larger tires and a high gear (lower numerically) can make the trans. work pretty hard even in everyday use.
