I have a 97 F250 with a 5.8L. I noticed while driving a ticking style noise from the passenger side of the motor. I have read several threads pertaining to exhaust leak and have tried to pinpoint this with no success. My concern is most people are saying the noise is present when the motor is cold. Mine is there all the time but when idling or in drive but stopped I do not notice it. I only notice the noise when accelerating, So is this infact more than likely a leaky manifold or could it potentially be worse.
What are the easist ways to find the leak if it is one and is this something I could repair myself as I have read how costly thus repair can be. Im extremely frustrated with this and need any and all help..
I would put her in neutral while going slow in a quite empty parking lot, turn off the engine and listen. It may not originate from the engine...just to make sure
Ok so after a nice cold morning the noise was present so im confident it is the manifold. So now with that said what is my best course of action for repair and is this at all a diy job?
sounds familiar to mine, i replaced the coil...sounds retarded but thats what it was, check it out, while the engine is on, move the coil, see if the noise changes, if so that obviously what it is, DONT TOUCH WITH YOUR BARE FINGER! haha i found out the hard way
Little late in the game but got the call from the muffler shop. Said he got the right side manifold off broke 3 studs but stated he got them out. He's telling me the manifold is all busted up so now he's getting one hopefully in the morning and hopefully without a big bill but he's reputable for being fair.
