Broken down. Need quick help

Neighbors father-in-laws truck wont start, he just called me to come look at it. Need ideas on what to look at first. I'm not as familiar with the 6.0's so some input would be greatly appreciated. I think its an 05.

No offense but you give next to no info. You need to check first for codes and also give details on the truck. Maint. details, type of filters and mods.

I would look for the presence of fuel in the secondary fuel filter under the hood. On an 05 I would suspect the snap to connect fitting on the high pressure oil pump or some kind of high pressure oil leak. The truck has two oil systems---just because he may or may not have oil pressure while cranking on the dash gauge he might not have HPO pressure. Get it code scanned if possible. Check the FICM repair section also. There is a TON of no start diagnosis in the tech folder also.

by won't start you mean won't turn over, or turn over and not fire, or sputter and die. is there electrical power, are lights dim. if he sticks wires to the positive and negative terminal of the batteries, then touches the wires to his tongue, how does he feel? This is what he meant by details.

If it should start after cooling off, 99% it's the hpop stc fitting and you are not going to repair that at a campground.

Sorry, it does spin over. I have AE and I'm on my way now. Hopefully the campground has wifi so I can check back in with you guys. Thanks for the help. Will check codes and HPOP readings first.

Ok, here's the deal. Batteries were pretty much dead from him trying to crank it so much. Hooked up AE but really couldnt tell anything since the batteries were dead, connected jumper cables to charge batteries and since I was waiting I started checking fuses just to make sure it wasnt something simple. Found fuse #39 blown. Replaced it and truck fired right up. Its listed as mirror heater but surely it powers something else. Does anyone have access to a service manual to look at the power distribution chart?

is the owners manuel in the truck. if so varify the position of the fuse against the diagram in the owners guide. a mirror fuse would not do that.

I would put the blowen fuse back in and see if that was just a fluke of luck to find a blowen fuse. when you put it back in if it still starts then its just a blowen fuse and you have other issues.
I would suspect a hpp oil leak. it will restart once it cools off.

Fuse #40, right next to it, is the fuel pump. That would do it. And it would be easy to miss the fuse position in that block.

Just FYI, according to the '05 Owner's Manual, fuse #39 is a 15 amp (Blue) fuse, and fuse #40 is a 20 amp (yellow) fuse.

Reps to everyone that chimed in.
It was fuse #39, 15 amp. What I'm wondering is, is there any other circuits powered off of #39. I know its not the mirror heaters cause this truck dont have them but there was a fuse there. From what I am used to seeing (Nissan) you will have several circuits powered from a fuse but the owners manual or fuse cover will list only one thing. Looking at a service manual should give you all of the items that uses that particular fuse. It may also be coincidence that it had cooled enough to start after I had replaced the fuse.
Oil is full and clean with no leaks on the ground under the truck. Do the 6.0's have an issue with internal leaks from the HPOP?
