If you drain the torque converter as well mine took 16 qts this past week. Which there is no reason not to drain it since it holds the large majority of the fluid and yours, if stock, has a drain plug. I just had my lady bump the key while I was underneath to turn the flywheel until the plug was at 6 o'clock. I've heard to turn the engine by hand but to heck with that. And our trannys are rated for Mercon which you'll probably have trouble finding because I don't think straight mercon is made anymore but anything rated to merc specs OR higher will work.

Forgot to add-- if you pull the filter the old o-ring likes to hang up in there. Several have missed it and later the filter drops off and they loose pump prime. I had to dig mine out but I learned to look for that on this forum. Just paying it forward.

There is no such thing as MERCON III or MERCON IV.
You can use MERCON or MERCON V in this trans.
