leaking red fluid

Looks like I am leaking a decent amount of redish fluid from the rear leftish of the engine compartment. I have a 360 in a 69 ford. Am I correct in thinking that this is transmission fluid and whats the most likely culprit? I have not had a chance to really follow where the fluid is coming from exactly.

Alex, Are you driving the truck or is it sitting?

Dang ddave, you need a seal kit. At a qt. a day you could easily pay for the kit.

ND tell the boy what kit to buy.

The truck is sitting. I drove it once for an hour or so then left it sitting for about a week and a half to two weeks. There was a pretty decent sized puddle on the asphalt.

Try driving it every 2-3 days then park it in a different spot. Sometimes when not driven the fluid drains out of the TC and overflows, aka leaks out.

Try that and report back in a couple weeks.

If it leaks each time you drive it you may have issues with the TC.

Forgive my lack of understanding but what does TC mean exactly?

I will be driving it much more over the next couple weeks so I will report back.

Thanks.

TC = Torque Converter, the fluid pump inside the bell housing that runs everything.

Sometime fairly new rebuilds will leak when not driven. Also not a bad idea to drop in at a local tranny shop, not franchise, and have them take a look. If they have been around for a while most will shoot straight with you.
