ok guys, after about three years away from the bumpsides, after looking at my grad pics(taken next to my old 72) i miss it lol. so i made a deal with my wife, if i can stick away from racing for then next few years and get a truck that can fit the family(me, wife, 9 month old daughter and a couple more to come) that i can get a old truck again. so i think what i want/need is a 67-79 four door truck. OR a good single cab truck and find a four door cab and stretch the frame. any idea as what im looking at paying for A. restorable/running, B. restorable/non running and C. a truck that needs help lol in four door and single cab, anyone know a local on any of these trucks? thx guys
From what I've seen (also considering a crew for "family reasons" - and to get me out of my tacoma) bumpsides generally run
$6-10k for Pristine Original or Tasteful Modified.
$2-6k give you a typical "needs work"
<$2k are usually ROUGH or cab-only
Some guys get darned lucky and find clean bodies on frame (no engine/trans) for under $500. I saw an ad a few months back for one in the pacific NW that went for like $800 & still drove. Sweet deal.
I'd say get into a searchtempest habit - key in your zip code & how many miles you're willing to drive to get it, then use this as your search (just copy & paste):
1967|1968|1969|1970|1971|1972 f100|f150|f250|f350 crew|crewcab|fourdoortruck
the "|" is called a "pipe" and on my keyboard is the uppercase of the "\" key
it takes the place of "or" & works in Google searches too. Good thing is that searchtempest lets you limit it to a geographic area (having just driven 263 miles one way to look at a truck that was almost as rusty as my 63, I can tell you it makes sense to keep that number low & be patient), but the bad thing is that it only searches Craigslist.
I would advise you to install updated antivirus software first, I got viruses off the site twice! User beware.
Hate to send you off-site, but the crew cab "place to be" is oldfordcrewcabs.com
also, give yourself a little intro so we know where you're located... you mention local, but I don't know if you're in my town or across the country. Lol
