I have a 1968 460 lincoln engine in my pick up. There is oil around the dipstick, which leads me to believe that I have pressure building up in the crank case. I am sure that the rings are in good condition (at least I hope so) because the engine was rebuilt about 5K miles ago at a reputable machine shop. I pulled the pcv valve out of the valve cover and it rattles and there is good vacuum at the pcv.
Is there anything else that can cause oil to come out of the dipstick? Please, let me pick your brains.
Thanks, Tim
You have blowby. I'd do a compression check and see what that tells you, wet and dry. What pistons and rings ar eyou running and waht did you gap the rings to?
On my 460 I built for my truck a year ago I can put my finger over the hose from oil fill to the filter housing and feel a vacuum.
If your rings really are in good shape, your PVC (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is not working right. The system keeps a vacuum on the crankcase so any gases or oil are suppose to be sucked into the intake manifold. Your PCV valve in the valve cover, usually the right one, should rattle when you shake it.

Someone didn't read the OP's post. The stupid questions on this board don't aggrivate me, it's the stupid reposnses, the "me too" responses, and the outright misinformation.
