If you really wanted to make the truck better try find a wrecked 2002 or newer F-450 with the Dana S110 with a 4:30 gear ratio.

The 99 and 2001 era F-450s had the modified Dana 80 with the 19.5 wheel ends. The problem is the center chunk isn't a regular Dana 80 so finding gears for it might be tough.

Gears are available for them, the Dana 80 used in those trucks are pretty durable too.

The F450 we have at work had 4:88's with the 6spd, we had it regeared to 3:73's at the beginning of the year as we dont need it to haul goose necks like it was set up for. since the gear change it is much better to drive and still has the power for towing, we used it to tow a 18' inclosed trailer all the way from WV to AZ and CA and it had no problems with power in the hills. Its nice to be able to downshift on a hill and not be tached out like you would be with the 4:88's. I think swaping to 4:30's would just be a waist of time and money, if your not towing a 12k trailer theres no need for such low gearing with the 6spd. Oh and its a late '99 7.3 crew cab dually flatbed

Try a search for Randy's ring & pinion. Give them a shop name for a huge discount.

Did you get better fuel milage when you went to a 373?
If so how much are you getting?
