no more split oil filters!fixed it.

So the old oil pump did have a sticky pressure relief valve, thus the high pressure and filters splitting -- as posted awhile back.

The oil pan had some thin, soft metal pieces in it, that might have come from the dip stick area (the previous owner had haywired something up to fix a broken dip stick 'sheath/slot'. It looks like the metal on the sides of bearings -- no way, or I'd would be moving.

Putting a new oil pump in, IS a chore on a hoist. I can't imagine doing it on the ground as some have posted. It took me 20 mins of neck wrenching, dripping oil in my face, scrapping, to clean off the old gasket. And getting the rod up into the distributor--even on the hoist, with a buddy's extra pair of hands to help -- it was a killer.

I guess in and of itself it's no big deal. It's after neck wrenching for an hour first, getting the engine up and oil pan off.

Oh man it was nice to see the oil pressure go up and then hold at 10 o'clock , instead of 12!

Good deal! Hope it continues to work for ya. The metal in the pan makes me worry but if its not knocking then you should be fine.

If it is silver, it probably isn't bearing material. I would only be worried if it was brass.

i agree totally. It may not hurt to check clearences though just ot see where they are. or not why go through all the headache to find out something is about ot break. LOL I do feel that way sometime though. I would rather not know something is going to break to keep from fixing it right now. Bad way of doing things sometimes, but hey what a ya going to do.

Do it right the first time and leave it alone right?? Well sometimes it feel like the first time is never going to end. LOL
