ok fellow f1 lovers what color should the tranny and engine be painted when i get to that point trying to stay as close to original as possable
OK Ken!
Well this is the source of many a fine debate, and all the sources tend to be contrdictory.
I think the bottom line is the tranny should be bare cast or painted black. If your engine is a 226 or 239 it should be Red (Vermillion). If it is a 215 it should be painted green (Krylon 2007).
See we don't have quite enough information - what year is the truck and what engine are we talking about.
239 in '52 was alpine green . Duplicolor has a Detroit Deisel Alpine Green that is so close .I believe the 239 in '51 was a red color . Put on a few light coats to prevent cracking due to heat / expansion build up .
OK, You're right, they switched it to green in 52. But we didn't know it was a 52 when I answered....but, I should have remembered though and mentioned it. (and it's in the links I posted that way too.)
The engine in my 52 is a bronze/tan colour, but you have to scrap away the grease and dirt to see it. I was surprised to find that out so I have to assume that the motor is not original to the truck.
thanks guys green it will be but Ive made up my mind on body color which was that ugly green when new and I am going to paint it that vermillion red
Prepare to spend $$$$$ for the Vermillion Red . It has chromium in it . Why do you think they called it Ver ( Million )
Just had sime mixed up to piant the wheels for the stock truck .Had the wide white Coker Classics mounted fri . With the trim rings and hub caps they look bitchen !!!!!! . Will post some pics end of next week . It has base red , another red, a small amount of black , white & violet and much more orange than any other added color . It also makes a difference what order the colors are added . It should have a small tint of orange at low light . Dusk is best .
