I have finally decided that it is time for me to quit smoking cigarettes, it only took me 4 years to figure that one out. I've tried many times in the past but usually within 24 hours, patch or no patch, I am ready to light right back up. Right now I am working on my 4th day and have no cravings at all. All on my own, with no support of patches, gums or pills.
I have to admit that smoking is not only the worst habit I ever picked up in my life but it also unknowingly changed my personality for the worse. I did not know until I started coming out of my nicotine high how much nicer I can be on my own. I have so much more energy and a much better attitude so far.
I am slowly beginning to be able to breath a lot better, still waiting for my smells to come back online a bit better.

Sorry just had to brag to someone about it
good job to you! nicoteen is a bad thing, best to run far from it.

That is the biggest part of quitting is setting you mind to it. When the time comes that you are done then you are done.
You have every right to brag and be proud. Hell man i dont know you and i am happy for you and proud of you.
I have to admit, this is one of the hardest things I have ever tried to accomplish in my life. Sometimes it feels like the word addiction is no where near strong enough to describe the hold that nicotine has on you. Not only do you have that addiction to the actual nicotine but you also have the habit of just holding and handling a cigarette, which is just as bad. Especially when you associate things such as driving to smoking. A lot of smokers choose to smoke immediately after eating. I don't know why exactly, I would though. Now the wife and I will go for a walk around the block, just to replace that habit. I'm still doing something, but I am doing something healthy and taking my mind off of it.
Surprisingly though, compared to other times that I have attempted quitting. I have not had a severe case of nicotine withdraws, which I was expecting to get. I don't know why but this time in particular it did not hit me near as hard.
good luck , and from my point of view it's a mental thing . patches etc.. are not going to help if you don't want too !!!!!!!!!! i quit in 98 and haven't even had the urge to light up since . i smoked cigars mainly , 20-30 a day !!! if i smoked cigs , cowboy killer heavies , i smoked 5-6 packs a day . i even gave up many of the things / sweets we all take for granted not long after due to diabetes , and it was the same way . now if i could just give up the caffiene !!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!
i tried for many years to quit, but never lasted more than 4-5 days.
i finally quit my 2-3 pack a day habit of 27 years on 12-1-2000, the day i buried my best friend of 40 years after he died of cancer.
i threw away 2 full packs of marlboros and have not had one since.
I've always had the utmost respect for those who take charge of their lives and quit smoking, drinking, lose weight, etc. These are the toughest things that you will ever do. Not only will your body thank you Tomcat, but your wallet will too!
I have talked to people that say "I quit smoking for 2 years and then started again" It blows my mind to hear talk like that. I dont understand how someone can go through the ordeal of "quitting" and then out of the blue start smoking again. my idea of quitting is not smoking for at least a year. anything less and your still in the process of quitting. I know it's different for everybody but in my opinion the first year is the toughest and if you can make it through the initial difficulties why start again when the hardest part is behind you.

Just wait a few more months, and food will taste way better than you had ever noticed before!! Those delicate, subtle flavors start to be noticed!!
Congratulations!!! Been five years for me, and counting!! I quit cold turkey,,, just handed my pack to my friend one day,,, said I was done,,, and never even had one tiny temptation to ever light up again!! I honestly think it's all in what we really want,,, or don't want!!
Good to hear. Human will is more powerful any gum or patch. If you need a patch or some gum you will never have it in your head that you are powerful enough to quit.

I smoked for 10 years then quit for 8 years. Started back up when I was real stressed out over woman problems.
Smoked again for 2 years and quit 6 months ago. I figure 40 years old and 40 lbs. overweight the smokes need to be over with or it is heart attack/stroke/cancer time.
I was able to quit as I came down with a nasty 3 week case of bronchitis. By the time I was over it, I had no desire to smoke. That's how I quit the first time too.
I wish the best of luck to you in staying away from these things.
You guys are awesome, I really appreciate the support. I need to print this out and put it in my truck so I can pull over and read it encase I ever get that itch while I'm driving.
