Nothin wrong with the 239 flatties. If ya wanna hotrod em up a little there aint a better engine to do it with. If you just wanna leave it alone and drive it up and down the road for 50,000 miles at respectable speeds like grampa did there aint a more dependable engine ever made. They will take a LOT of abuse too. Just ask anybody who ever had one.
One more thing. There aint nothin' sounds better than a flattie...slim
once again im excited. is there really alot to do to hot rod em???? examples please? i never reall thought about it
btw has anybody bought anything from this website.... The Hot Rod Company - Ford Flathead Parts i see somethings i like on it. anything jump out to anyone part wise. i mainly was looking at cams and the acorn nuts. stuff to dress it up . suggestions?
ya got reds , the hot rod company , speedway , flathead jacks , summit , jegs , on and on and on .... you are gonna love reds headers and speed equipment , flathead jacks , hot rod co. , and speedway for sure !!!!! i got a dream list of parts a mile long for when i decide to get rich and quit being a skinflint !!!!!!!!!!!!! oh yeah lets not forget the flathead guru's at h&h a.k.a flatheads forever , and schneider and isky cams ............ it goes on for a long time . bring your own drool towel !!!!!!!! excited ??? the only thing i have seen that gets more attention is my buddy norm's 426 hemi in his challenger . they're a fun lil' motor . just sit back and enjoy , and develop some patience , as my bessie will occassionally test me ............
im very iffy though when it comes to buying aftermarket parts for it without knowing what gains i will be accomplishing. on other forums i have read people switching headers carbs and cam and only getting 25hp gain from that list . is this true??? what would be the best bang for my buck.
flatheads arent cheap , at most you'll 250 - 300 horse in an extreme build maybe , so bang for your buck get her running , maintain her and have some fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ure from the Peoria area???? holy crap im in washington about 10 min out of peoria. ! .
We are in Pekin, so yeah not too far apart!
I rebuilt a Plymouth Laser 2.0 dohc a few years ago...if you can handle the DSM's then that motor is like workin on a tractor! In comparison..you should be able to handle it.
I lived in Washington for 10 years and another five between washington and Eureka. I'm sure we'll be talkin! LOL
Jeff
it's called a supercharger and a lot of green for the prerequisite engine build . no parts list or money figures . . visit h&h , or raodrunner engineering , or uncommon engineering . mucho drool factor !!!!!!
25 extra hp gain is purdy good when you've started with 100.
Really and truly, if you want something that makes 200-250 hp, give your flattie to someone who appreciates them for what they are and get a more modern engine. The Chevy 350's will run circles around the highest priced built flattie and they are a dime a dozen. Part of the mystic that follows these old engines is hogwash. You'll never spend so much money to get so little hp and those of us who have chased that with real dollars and real measurable results--say on a dyno, know this.
A good intake with multi carbs, (you'll have to change your dizzy to mechanical advance, cuz the perfectly good vacuum advance that came with it won't function with multi carbs) high compression aluminum heads, free-flowing headers with duel exhaust, will get you maybe 50 horses more than stock. If you really wanna get crazy and spend a lot of $$ and screw up all the other sycronised components you can get a blower and go nutz.
I've done it all and short of a blower you never get 200 horses.
And if you did, about the third time you got on it, something in the drivetrain will break--trannie, or rear end, if you're lucky u-joint.
You don't own a flattie cause they are particularly fast and powerful, you own em cause there damn cool in some circles and like I said earlier, nothin sounds better than a flathead Ford.
Figure out what you want...slim
haha i guess what i want out of my flathead is not just performance but reliability. im talking about aftermarket parts that arent necessarily better but more reliable. and jeff and nicole. do u live off of broadway??? i bought alot of DSM parts from around there. do u know travis kenny? big dsm builder
