just checked on glow plugs at local ford garage, they said they where no longer available for my 6.9l. found some online for about 11 dollars a piece. didn't think that was a bad price. I have mine on a manual switch, should i consider somthing other then stock where they are on a manual switch, or just use stock and be care full of how long i have them on?? thanks guys
As far as I am concerned, you should use a temperature limiting type. I don't want to start a war, so I emailed you. Please let me know if you have any questions.

If you want to be stock, ditch that old GP system and upgrade to the newer system. It is a different controller altogether. ZD1A's are definitely the stock plugs from ford. They should still be available though, thats odd. There are lots out there, it is ultimately your choice. Just use a momentary horn button, that way they cant be left on, some people still mess that up, dont be those people! haha
Nothing but motorcraft/Beru plugs for you. Most other plugs burn up right away and the tips swell up and sometimes break off. Their are temp limiting plugs that can be made to work, but they were not designed for the 6.9 and IIRC require modification of the controller.
The motorcraft plugs are far superior to most aftermarket ones, and almost every guy on here will insist that you use them. There have been far less reports with swelling and broken tips vs the aftermarket plugs, and they appear to last longer.
However, Marianna has always brought up the fact that there is new technology on the market which the motorcraft plugs don't offer: self-regulating. These plugs have resistors in them to prevent overheating in the event of a failed controller. DO NOT USE THE AUTOLITE 1107s. Everyone, even Marianna, believes they are garbage based on the awful experiences users have posted about here. The temperature limiting plugs which Marianna swears by are the Autolite 1109s.
So, either go with the Motorcraft ZD1A or ZD9s (depending on your year) or go with the temp-limiting autolites. Most guys on here prefer to stick with motorcraft because they are tried and true, but admittedly there is very little experience here involving the temp-limiting autolite plugs. So it's up to you

This has to be the best post I've seen on here regarding the temp limiting autolites.
Anyone have a pic or report of a swollen "non removable" beru plug? I still really want to see one. All of the old ones i can find from junk yards still work awesome and the average time till death or TTD is 32 seconds. The self temp limiting coil technology is the only thing saving most GP manufacturers, old ones = friggin ridiculous failure rates overall. I just like not having to hold buttons anymore lol, so i stay stock. if they make a lifetime guaranteed plug, that will pay for all associated costs if it fails, i dont care who makes it, i would buy it. For now, i will stick with my experience and ford parts start me every day, without fail. Gene if this is getting to you, dont be offended, we are trying to see the light. Autolite has just chapped the crap out of us overall. just wish they worked with a stock controller. ahh well. maybe one day!!
What about the 1109s? Has anybody ever had one swell?
Not trying to start anything, just asking....
But I am only running the ZD9s, they are the only option for my stock GPC any way.
