A few weeks ago, I posted a question about the 4wd high and 4wd low lights flashing and a squeaking noise coming from the front end. I took it to the mechanic and he cleaned the 4wd actuator motor and the contacts on the motor. The lights haven't flashed since then, but the squeaking continues. Is this a normal noise? My Explorer has the Control-Trac (permanent four-wheel-drive).

You are miss informed, Control-Trac is NOT (permanent four-wheel-drive)
Change or clean and lube the front sway bar bushings to quiet the noise..
It sounds like it's coming from the frontend or transfer case.
Ok, in the owner's manual (yes, I've read it) it says that there is Control-Trac, 2WD, and AWD (only on 5.0 models). I have the "shift on the fly" **** on my dash (4WD Auto, 4WD High, and 4WD Low). My understanding was that when it is in 4WD Auto, it's still in 4WD but it only engages when it senses that the frontend is slipping.
