squeak from front axle seals

I have a 03 super duty 3/4 with 45000 miles. I have squeaking sound coming from the front end. My local ford dealer says ford has been replacing those front axle seals but the noise comes back. They said the fix is to keep a dab of grease on them of which I.m doing. That does take care of it for awhile but the squeaking does come back until I put a dab of grease back on them.Does anyone have any other ideas about this?

The grease goes behind the little cup where the seal is found. It is where the axle goes thru the hub.

Front end squeak!!!

I had to bring my truck to the dealership 4 times with in the first 30000 miles for a front end squeak. Twice they tried to tell me the sound didn't exist until I took them for a test ride. Then they decided the greasing the sway bar bushings with never sieze would solve the issue and it did for 3-5 thousand miles at a clip. They also denied any report of similar issues. Finally I got fed up and demanded new bushings before the warranty expired and they complied. The noise went away. That was at 32000. Now I'm at 56000 and the squeak is back again. Now that the truck is paid off it's hard to trade it in. I think I'm gonna try installing some sort of grease fittings or something. Kinda at a lose and disappointed but I love my truck.

I moved this thread to the Super Duty forum. You'll bet better answers here.

Ford replaced a front axle seal under warranty on my F350. I had been driving a long time without going into 4x4 when I tried it one day. It squeeled horribly! The dealer suggested putting the truck in 4x4 on a regular basis to keep the seals lubed. I've been doing it for a few years now and no more problems.

I also had the spring sqweeking problem mentioned and it was temporarily fixed with new plastic spacers betweeen the front leafs. It still sqweeks sometimes but I just live with it.

I don't know if it is the best method but I spray silicone lubricant on all the bushings etc. It keeps things quiet.

On my '00, I would use about a can of WD40 on anything that could move or cause a squeek about once every 2 weeks under the front end from the second year I owned it until I traded it in last December. I tried several times to get Ford to fix it and finally just gave up. Honestly, the squeeking was the only reason I decided to trade for the '06 I have now.

I have had mine done twice in 34K. I only hear the noise when 4x4 is not engaged and hubs are locked in (manual hubs).

Is this the noise you are hearing (rotational) or is it a squeak going over bumps?

My truck did not just squeek going over bumps. It would squeek on acceleration and it would squeek coming to a stop, going around corners, pretty much everywhere. God knows, going offroad would drive you to drinking. I could open the either door, stand up and grab the pillars and shake the truck side to side and you could hear the squeeking. As I said, everything under from the front doors forward that moved seemed to squeek. WD40 every week...some fix eh?

Has anyone tried using CV grease. This grease is durable.

If it's just the rubber seal, try some faucet lube. That stuff is waterproof and very resistant to washing away.

With mine, the squeak is rotational. And under the exact circumstances as you describe... manual hubs locked, without 4x4 engaged. What fixed it for you? What did it turn out to be?
