Switching from V code springs to X code springs info needed

I am looking to switch out my V code springs ( 150,000 miles on them) to X Code springs. I figure with the mileage its not a bad idea and plan to add a winch, bumper etc on front by end of year and then i tow alot as well ,so i figured it would be a wise decision all around. I have a few questions though.

Will going to the X springs make the truck ride any harsher when empty and not towing? or pretty much stay the same?

And i assume X springs are on the front and rear of the truck?( Few buddies said its just fronts so this is why i am asking to confirm) So obviouisly if so, i would be changing all 4. I assume going through Ford Dealer (Ed) is the best place to go? ANd do i need any other harware to do the swap ( U bolts, bolts etc) Or can i just reuse what i have?

And last but not least, i have the Icon 4.5 hanger lift and truck sits level now. So by changing the front and rear springs , it should after all said and done still be sitting level?

Thanks for all info, and please give me all opinions on the pros or cons of going from V's to X's . Just don't want to make a mistake by doing it. And i assume it woudl be about an inch gain in height ?

Thanks guys.

Tony

X code refers to the front springs only. Back has a different code. I got my X codes from Deaver suspension. They ride only slightly rougher than stock worn V codes. You will need all new u bolts.

X code springs are going to raise your front 1.5 -2 inches.

I have Icon 4.5 hanger system and installed X codes. I ended up with about 6.5 inches of lift in the front.

If your Icon kit was installed the way it came than you have a block under your back spring so you will either have to get new blocks and ubolts ( cheaper but not as good) Or get new rear springs for 6 inches of lift ($$$)

Walt is absolutely correct. I went from U codes to X codes and got 2.5" of lift on the front. My early 99 already had 4" blocks in the rear, so I still have a pretty good rake. Ride is only slightly harsher, but really feels better because the front no longer feels like it dives into the turns. One of my best mods.

Deaver Suspension supplied you with a set of aftermarket springs called X codes, or Ford designated X codes from Ford?

I ask because springs are a very common topic over in the Excursion forum and one person posted he went to a spring shop and asked for V codes, not realizing the V codes the spring shop had in their "book" had different specs than the Ford designated V codes.

Im gonna copy and paste the spring code chart, so you can see what the Ford codes mean. Your F250 came with a VA spring code probably- V in the front A in the rear. My late 99 250 came with VB codes. I think that an X B setup with a 4 inch block might be the best set up.

There is a two-character spring code on the vehicle certification sticker on the lower doorpost behind the driver's door. The first character is the front spring code, and the second character is the rear spring code. A common spring code for a CrewCab 4x4 would be VB. The V means 5,200 pounds front springs, and the B usually means the rear springs on an F-350 SRW. However, some F-250s also have code B rear springs.

Any pickup can have any available front spring code - depending on options, and it doesn't matter whether F-250, F-350 SRW or F-350 DRW. Here are the spring codes for the front leaf springs on '99 thru '04 PSD 4x4 pickups:

T = 4,400 pounds @ground
U = 4,800
V = 5,200
W = 5,600 (rare on a pickup)
X = 6,000 (only with snow-plow pkg on a pickup)

Rear spring codes:
A = F-250 & Excursion (6,084 pounds @ground)
B = F-350 SRW (6,830 pounds @ground)
C = F-350 DRW (8,250 pounds @ground)

If you already have code B rear springs, then you already have the same rear springs that are on F-350 SRWs.

If you have Code U or V front springs, then you might like the code X front springs. In addition to giving you a little more weight capacity on the front end, they will give you a one to two inch lift of the front end.

If you wanted to really beef up the springs on your F-250, then put the code X front springs and the code C rear springs on it (they should bolt on). But be warmed it will then ride "like a truck".

BTW, NEVER change leaf springs without replacing all the U bolts with brand new U bolts.

Sweet, the Deaver X code has the same specs as the Ford designated X code.

What did they run you, if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks guys for all responses. I checked my code and i have "V" up front and "A" out back.

Walt...My Icon is put on as it came. So what size block would i need in the rear to make it level again if i went with the X codes in front. and kept what i have in the rear?

And what if i changed out my "A" in the back and put "B". Would the rear spring change raise the back a inch or two like the front? If so i should be able to keep same size block now and still be level. Am i right on thinking this or is there really no need to change the rear springs? I tow alot so would the "B" springs help or hurt me in that respect? Don't want to waste money, but want to do it right the first time and be done with it.

Thanks guys

It depends on the block that is in there. I don't know how rear spring rating affects rear ride height as I have the stock springs out back.
