Hate to sound like a broken record, but this is driving me crazy!! I read the tsb and other sections on the tranny but my question still isn't answered.
I have 122k miles on the truck, no slipping or eractic shifting. However since I've owned this truck brand spanking new and had my gauges installed, the trans temp almost never moved off the 150 deg unloaded, I've seen it get to 165 loaded on a 90+ deg day and even hit 180 a couple times in heavy traffic. But now all of the sudden it reading 160 to 165 unloaded and will hit 180 if I'm pulling anything small or big around town. I know these temps are within the safe limits, but damn is this a sign of something to be looking for? I've put the scanner on the truck and it doesn't register any codes. Temps here have been in the mid 80's, but I don't think that makes a difference.
Had the trans flushed and paper roll replaced about 5k miles ago and it seems that it started the temp issue shortly after that. Could it have too much fluid in it? Possible they didn't really change the filter?
I'm kinda at a loss here hopefully someone will have an answer for this.
A worn tranny would run warmer than a new tranny. Would be my first response. What a bout engine coolant temps? If the trans cooler, radiator, or intercooler are clogged or dirty they will work a lot less effectively.
I don't have an engine coolant temp gauge other than the stock in dash one and it has been right where it always is just below half. I thought bout taking the pressure washer to the coolers and radiator just to get any dirt and bugs out.
personally I think you'r splitting straws. Maybe someone else will chime in.
I'm splitting straws? Are you saying that it is nothing to worry about? Maybe so but like I said before I've never had it go up in temp like it has been for the last couple weeks.
I think the coolers are partially plugged, either the air side or the ATF side, or possibly both. Usually it's bugs and leaves blocking the airflow. The blockage could be a different cooler that is restricting airflow to the trans cooler.

Thanks Mark, I will look at the coolers and try and hose them out and see if that solves my issues. How many miles should I expect to get out of the trans as long as I've been taking care of it as needed? What would cause the trans cooler to get plugged on the ATF side and what would you recommend to resolve it?

Don't use a hi press washer to clean them. If you bend the aluminum fins you will be going bachwards.
Rinsed all the coolers with a hose this am, seems to run a little bit cooler, didn't get over 165 today. Got to figure out a way to rinse them out from behind. Any suggestions? I do think they added too much fluid to it also, I checked the level this am, when cold, let it run for 10 mins and the fuild was half way up the hot marks on the stick. I thought if it was cold it should be on the cold marks gonna check it again when it's hot and see.
