First of all..I'm new here so Hello to everyone...I read over some of the postings and you all seem to be a great bunch of people.
Now I'm looking for some help...My son gave me his 94 bronco with the 5.8 liter, auto trans and auto locking hubs..anyways I have been driving it for couple months and have started to have some problems with the transmission. It seems to shift just fine, but once I get to crusing speed...around 60 and stay at the speed for a while it acts like the trans is coming out of gear...the rpm's go up to like 2500 or more from teh normal 1800 then it comes back down and then shifts. It's kind of like it just comes out of gear then goes back in to like 3 and has to shift back up to OD. It has been doing this for the past week or so..but doesn't do it every time I drive it. And then today it started doing the same thing at much lower speeds..like in city driving 25 to 30 mph. The Transmission is a rebuild from AMMCO and only has about 25000 miles on it since the rebuild...of course its not under warranty any longer..so any help would be great, was thinking about starting with a transmission flush?
Thanks for the quick info...I searched on here and a couple other places and it sounds like there is a way to adjust this before I replace it. But everyplace I find info about adjusting it, it says you have to use a tool called Rotunda T91P-7010-AHT, can this be done with out this tool/gauge?
Also once I put this on I'm assuming I have to adjust it, so my question is still kind of how do I do that with out the handy dandy tool they talk about? And you guys are great for helping me out so quick with this. I can do most my own repairs/ and troubleshooting but I get lost with transmissions!
When you replace the switch set the parking brake so the truck wont roll, move the shifter into neutral. Then remove the linkage that holds the cable to the transmission, then remove the switch. When installing the new switch you will notice a line on the switch that says neutral. The trans is already in neutral, so just line up the two lines and tighten the two bolts and the switch is adjusted.
Here is a pic of a similar switch, the concept is the same, notice the two lines, one on the inner cream colored part and the other on the black housing part that says neutral. When those lines are lined up your done.
Ok..got one put it in, came with a different wiring plug (what a pain in the butt) but got it on and it seems ok. I am assuming that if I had screwed up one of the wires that the check engine light would come on or it wouldn't shift right? It seems to be shifting ok and no feeling like its shifting into Netural, I'll be driving it for a long distance tomarrow and will be able to tell for sure and will let you guys know. And again thanks for the help. maybe one of these days I be able to help out on something on here.
Hey guys, i'm having the same kind of problem, only my OD light comes on and flashes.Transmission feels like it just goes into neutral, light comes on, shifts hard. If i stop and turn off the motor, the light goes out when i start it back up and it shifts fine for a short while and then does the same thing all over again. What complicates the matter is that i had the transmission rebuilt in january. Also replaced the MLPS sensor. And replaced the VSS sensor twice because it set a code twice. I'm wondering if maybe the wiring from the VSS sensor has a short or something. I can't figure out where the wires go from the sensor forward. What does it connect to on the front end. Hoping this is something simple. Thanks for any suggestions,Bob
