Modifying Rear Barn doors?

Hey guys,
Just joined here as part of doing some research, and ran into a question that I couldn't find answered after searching here and other places.

Is there any way to modify the rear barn doors on the excursion to open wider?

One of the requirements I have is to be able to put something in the back thats a bit over 50'' wide. I went to carmax recently armed with a tape measurer and found out that the rear cargo area of the excursion should suffice for this (~53'' across IIRC if you move the spare tire) but the distance between the barn doors was down in the 46-48'' range.

I saw the flat metal pieces that held the doors in place while open, but I don't remember whether or not the hinges were oriented in a way that would allow opening wider.

Anyway, has anyone done this before? If not would it be possible?

Thanks in advance for the help.

-Justin

Ah! that makes a lot more sense. I didn't notice a clip that i could remove, I'll have to take another look at them and see if I can figure it out.

Thanks for the quick response!

That little bar you see is just a piece to keep the doors from swinging all the way open and hitting the truck or breaking the door. You are not going to break the hinge as heavy as it is. I unhooked mine and slid the little arm back inside the door so I can put it on/off as I need to, this allows me to open the doors all the way when hooked to the camper and for loading stuff. I have yet to replace them back.
