Well first charge them and then pull them out and test them seprate to check for a weak or bad battery. Any auto store has a tester and is usually free..Good luck on the surgery you had.. I too was in for surgery last month but mine was for Kidney donation to a friend.

Your a great freind and person to donate a kidney to someone. You should be proud of yourself. I will do that to see if i have a bad battery.

Diagnosis routine:

A) pull batteries out, charge them, test them.

If pass under load,

B) check all connections good (clean of corrosion) from battery to starter, alternator, etc.

C) Then check alternator for output (with batteries nearly fully charged, output should be at 14V range within a few minutes of starting

D) If alternator voltage test fails

Check pigtail for damage --- most common failure at your mileage, note there are a lot of failures that do not show.. but if pigtail voltage is bad.. then...

Replace pigtail (or just do so just to be sure).

If you have dual alternator, note test different....

Then...

Check alternator -- and replace it as needed.

I don't drive my Excursion on a regular basis so the battery dies all the time. (A yr old Ford 65 850 battery.)

I figure it's the alarm system that's draining the battery. When it was below -40 here this past winter it was hopeless trying to get it to start even with a boost.

So I'm thinking of installing a second battery down in the frame and some sort of battery minder. I may plug in a solar charger to see if that keeps the battery up but in the short winter days I sincerely doubt it would do much.

I think I'll also look at that military spec or whatever deep cycle battery. Odyssey?

OK this may be weird or not normal but it seems as though it was my cewll phone charger that killed the batteries. Prior to my surgery my friend drove my truck and moved my charger to another port that i am guessing is on all the time and not aonlyw en the key is on. Once i drove her for soem time to recharge she has been fine since and i moved the charger back to the original port where it is on only when the ignotion key is on. It is either that or i have a 1942 gremlin running around in my engine compartment.,lol.
