I'm looking at a set of 390 rods to put in my 360 {along with a 390 crank}. Is C7AE-C the correct number for 390 rods? They are listed as 352,360,390,427,&428 FE rods. I know 352 and 360 are longer than the 390,427,428's, but I don't know the correct numbers.
I ordered that book online last night but it won't be here soon enough. The rods are coming up on an auction in a couple of days. I was hoping someone could let me know if that is the right rod number for a 390 before then. If there not the right ones I don't want them.
Run from that auction - if the seller doesn't know the difference, forget it.
C7AE-B is 390/410/428, I know for a fact, I've had them.
Matter of fact, I think I know what auction you're looking at - look very carefully at the pictures. It appears they say "C7AE-B" on the rods. Is it Keith Craft selling them?
Contact them directly and ASK them to verify what they are.
Yes it is the same auction you mentioned. He goes by keithc8.
I also noticed, after you mentioned it, they are C7AE-B. Are these correct for the 390? Sorry for asking these simple questions. I haven't got my FE bible yet. How To Build Your Big Block Ford.
Yes, I sold a set of 390 rods a while back on ebay, C7AE-B. I would suggest you ask them directly if they are 390 and NOT 360 rods, and possibly have them measure them center-to-center and see if they are the right length.
These rods are the same castings as the heavier rods in the 428CJ/SCJ(?), but the rod bolts are 3/8" instead of the heavier-duty 13/32". Of course, it turns out, removing the material to make the holes 13/32" actually WEAKENS the rods.
So, the C7AE-B rods are the strongest stock rods you can find.
Put a set of ARP rod bolts in them, and you'll have the strongest stock rods available.
