are the blocks the same for all of the fe's? I need to rebuild the 360 currently in my truck and was looking at a few websites that sell the 390 or 428 crank and rods. Can I get the 428 crank, rods, pistons and make my 360 a 428 or do I have to get the 390 crank and rods to make it a 390?
No - you can generally bolt any FE into a vehicle that had an FE in it, but the blocks themselves have different cylinder castings.
You can take a 360 and turn it into a 410 with the 428 crank and rods and special pistons, using the 360/390 bore.
Otherwise, no, you can't bore out a 360/390 to the 428 bore. There are very rare blocks that can actually take the overbore, but it's really pushing it and not worth the risk.
Best thing to do is get a 428 block and go from there. You can sleeve the block to a 428 bore, but that's expensive and it's easier to get a real 428 block, unless you have a stock numbers-matching show-car and want to hide that it really has a 428
Otherwise, 390's can be built using the 360 block, and with some work can put out near what a 428 will, with a little less low-end torque.

thanks - it looks like a 390 build up is going to happen starting in a few months.
