I am having troubles with my 1999 Ranger with a 4.0 in it. Everytime I make periodic stops and have to shut it off, like when I am shopping and going from store to store, my truck never wants to start. Its like it doesnt want to start when its been started and shut off a few times after its warm. I manage to get it to start but it need to tap the pedal a little to get it to start and need to keep feathering the gas to keep it running. Any ideas? Help is needed and appreciated, Thanks.

I would check the fuel pressure, you could be having a vaporlock issue.......... clean your IACV snd check/change the fuel filter before you do the pressure test
Nope, no other symptoms, runs fine unless its started and shut down periodically like when I go shopping or something, I always manage to get it started but im worried that one day I wont get it to run and Ill have to have it towed home.

lets see what Rockledge says....he's the man..........like i said before i am suspecting fuel pressure, fuel filter, iacv and I also would check the fuel pump relay......one other thought is next time it will not start spray some starter fluid in the TB.......if it fires you know it is fuel related
* a dirty air filter can cause starting issues on a warm engine

I agree, it could be related to a fuel pressure/delivery problem. If there is any possible way to check the pressure during the no-start, that would be ideal.
When is the last time the fuel and air filters were changed? Also, try cleaning the MAF sensor, it can't hurt.
The reason I asked about other issues is because, a few years back I was also having similar problems (hard to start when warm) and it turned out to be, of all things, a bad ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor). But in addition to the hard start, my 4.0L's idle was also out of whack.
