So i ran the evolutions code reader on my truck. I got those two codes. P0478 says Exhuast Pressure Control Valve High Input. P0470 says Exhuast Pressure Control Sensor Circuit Malfunction. I looked in the Workshop manuel and it keeps saying to use a special NGS tester or something to diagnose. Has anyone else got these codes before? I would really like to get this thing fixed up because i cannot run constitent boost pressures.
It is most likely something wrong with your Exhaust Backpressure sensor. It sits in front of the HPOP right behind the serpentine belt. There is a tube going down out of it, and it connects to the front of the manifold. Remove this tube and the sensor, and blow them out with compressed air. See if that doesn't fix it.
That is a High Pressure Oil circuit code. You were most likely on the throttle hard and were running high RPM's when this code was thrown. You have a chip or programmer, correct? It is a common problem among trucks, the injectors use oil faster than the pump can put out. Yours being a early99, your pump will not displace as much oil as a later model such as a 2000 would.
Yeah its the evo on extreme all the time. Im going to try to turn the evo to stock and see if i still get that code then. I have been think of upgrading the pump to a 2000 pump because i know the e99 does not put out as much pressure as the 2000 and up. They are also a weaker pump that has more problem with going out doesnt it?
I get those same exhaust codes all the time every since ford reflashed my truck. The funny part is that it was a special order truck new and came without the cold weather package and doesn't even have the exhaust back pressure sensor, or EBPV. I have learned to just ignore it as the truck still runs great.
John311t, the early 99 pumps are not a problem pump. The only difference between them and the later pumps is the swash plate angle. The early 99 is 15* and the later ones are 17*, so in theory, the new pumps will put out 12% more volume of oil. They both are capable of the same pressure. The options out there are not cheap. You can go with a stock replacement pump (later model) for about $500, a HO single (not on the market quite yet) for about $1300 or twin pumps (Terminator, Stealth, BTS) for $2000. The stock pumps are a crap shoot whether the reman pump will be any better than the one you take off, but that is what I did. I bought a Delphi brand pump and it worked great for me, but like I said, it is a crap shoot. Your existing pump is not prone to catistrophic failure, it just can't keep up with the demand. It won't hurt anything. The truck just won't peform as well as it could. I only held 1500 psi on my 120 setting with my old pump. The new pump holds 2800 psi with no problem. My seat of the pants dyno says I picked up about 20-30 HP with the new pump.
So i went to clean out the line. Compressed air did nothing to clean it. The entire line is packed full of soot. I tried to clean it out and half way through doing that, i noticed the line had a hole in it!!! Now i have to try and make a new line.

Are you sure Ford did not use a standard reflash prom and program the EBP back into the PCM

There's always the repair the line option. How bad is the line overall?
Well, The entire line is still full of soot. I got the ends cleaned out but the middle is still full. Its pack like a brick in there. I have nothing to get throught it. The hole is directly in the middle. It rotted out.
You can either make your own replacement, or Ford sells it for about $40. That was the way I went. The fittings on the end don't appear to be a standard fittings to me. It was just easier to buy one.
I used brake line and 2 couplers. It wasnt the easiest thing to do because it was hard to get all the bends right but it worked good. I havnt pulled a code yet.
