The gap for the points is to use a paper matches book, this is an old school method of doing this. You should be able to find the spark plug gap at the place were you bought the plugs. Hope this helps.

what works for me is when i set the dist. roughly 10 degress BTDC and then set the points with a matchbook cover as mentioned in the prior post. I never really bother to gap my plugs either. I just buy a set of Autolite 45's, slap a lil never seize on the threads and go! So far, I have had NO problems with this method and I have YET to break down! Just make sure that when you replace the points, install a NEW matched condenser as well. I never liked timing lights because they dont take into account distributor bushing wear which has a tendency to distort actual timing results!
GOOD LUCK

Jason390fe is giving you the right numbers, but what I want to know is why are you still running points ? Your engine will be happier if you change over to something more up to date. DF
LOL! Well, I guess I'm just an old dinosaur. I guess if I put all the new stuff on my old truck, I would just as soon by a newer model.
You are going to think I'm really crazy but, I'm still running split rims!
