Just finished searching the post for this but couldn't find anything....
I've got a 96 F250 with the EFI 460 and 5spd. It's been sitting a while because it likes to die at random times but now it just won't start. It will start with starting fluid but it is not getting fuel from the tanks to keep running. When you turn the key on the fuel pumps to not come on. Also, the fuel gauge pegs out at full when you turn the key on, this does not change when you select a different tank.
I've changed the relays under the hood but that has not helped. I pulled the wiring harness connector on the firewall to check for corrosion but did not find any. Tried the inertia switch but it seems fine. Can't find any blown fuses either. Just need a few more ideas on what to check. Thanks for any help.
Have someone hold their hand on the Fuel Pump Relay when the key is turned to the on position.
Both the PCM Power Relay and the Fuel Pump relay should click on and then one second later the Fuel Pump relay will drop out and make another click.
Do the relays do this?
Let us know this so we can tell you what to check next.
I take it this is a OBD I non California truck, right?
