IIRC I only removed the drive bolt through the front cover, made sure all the oil hoses were disconnected, removed the mounting bolts and had the pump out without doing anything with the reservoir. I don't think I even had to drain it. BTW be sure and fill it after you do this, if it doesn't have oil in it the injectors won't fire and the truck won't start.
The front plate has a steel tube and sensor what are they for and how do I get it out my way ? I have the cover plate on the front removed and it won't push out the way far anuff for me to get in there
I just used a 3" extension on a ratchet and kind of pushed my way in there and it worked fine, not exactley as square with the bolt as I'd like, but it worked. DON'T DROP THE BOLT!!!
There is one near the top toward the passenger side you should be able to see, the other one is on the bottom, near the valley and way back underneath, you'll need a mirror to see it.

The tube runs down to the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold. Disconnect it there and pull the whole assembly up and out. When you re-install the plate use a small bead of RTV sealant all around the edge to prevent oil leakage.
Are you sure you have to? The rear plate very rarely leaks.
If you're sure you need to use a large c-clamp from front to rear to slightly compress the rear cover to remove the snap ring. Start real easy and then compress it just enough to ge the snap ring loose. Same procedure to replace snap ring after you put in new o-ring and re-intall the rear plate.
No I don't think that is it but I have the replacement oring for it so I mise well put it in so it has a fresh o ring so there will be less of a chance of it going out and having to do this all over again
Well that's were I thought it was leaking but everyone on here says no ?
There was oil in the groove that holds the snap ring how else can I tell if its bad with out pulling it off and seeing if its dryed out and hard ?
Most here, from what I've seen, don't see that part leaking. Usually it's the "non-servisable" plug, which is actually servicable. Deiselsite.com, for one, has plugs with deeper threads to fix this problem. I know, regretably, thus the 4 pump changes.
