Question rust holes on the bed

I have a '64 F-100. The truck came from Oklahoma. I think sand rubbed between the bed and the supports. The only holes in the bed are by where it is bolted on, and where it has started to seperate from the end of the bed by the cab. The holes are about half dollar size. The bed seems to me to be structurally sound. It does not flex when I walk in it and the rust is not flaking apart like mica.

What are the best options for fixing the bed?

I have considered making it a wood bed sealed with clear epoxy, welding patches after stripping down to bare metal, or cutting out the bed and replacing it with diamond plate or plain sheet metal.

I have a wire feed mig welder and continue to practice with it in preparation.

I'll post a picture when I figure out how. My attempts have had me going in circles to log back on.

rust holes on the bed

If the floor itself is bad, most likley from water sitting in it or maybe years of road salt from snow. Anyway, since the floor is holy, forgive the pun, it will most likley need replaced. There are patch panels for the regular beds that can be cut down so you can weldin in certain spots. But if you are Really daring and have the extra, consider putting Polished Alum Diamond Plate down. Just make sure you Seal the old bed w/ something like POR 15 to stop the rust and lay in and seal the edges of the diamond plate with Seam sealer or somethinar to prevent water from running down and out that way. Just a thought.
