Gonna be swapping out the 360 in my 69 F100 4x4, it sits up pretty high. Do you think it would be a good idea to remove the front fender and grill assembly, to have better access to the engine?
I suggest that you don't, unless you want to be able to reach right in, instead of leaning over the fender. It's not much work taking of the front clip, unless the bolts are rusty. I suggest just taking off the hood and removing the radiator. I took a 360 out under a couple hours just by removing the hood and radiator.
It depends on what you are using to pull the engine. A very tall tree, a beam in your garage, an engine hoist, etc...
I normally use the front end loader on my dads tractor. Because of this, I prefer to remove the front cap. It really does not take that much time and I feel my sheetmetal is safe. I have done it plenty of times with just the hood removed. You just have to be very cautious.
