Exclamation P0281 with smoke

Hey Chris,

I have a new issue after fixing the no start issue. Now I have a issue with smoke. The KOER cylinder Con test shows a code of P0281. Cylinder #7 circuit con balance fault. Is this caused by a o-ring. Also cylinder #7 is on the passenger far back or are they meaning firing order. Thanks for your help.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Yea, #7 is the far back one on the passenger side. The code just means that injector is not holding up it's end of the deal. O-rings are a possibility. Can you watch rotational velocity numbers and see how high #7 is?

Have you started a thread on this? I'll try and find it. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Today I replaced all O-rings on the passenger side. While I was there I also replaced the glow plugs. The trouble is still there. Now the truck has no power and still smokes. I will be doing some tests on the truck with the AI. Any ideas.

I found that I broke the MAP senor. I guess when I took the Valve cover off I must of jammed the hose that comes from the turbo to the map sensor off. I have some red neck glue (JB Weld) on it for now. Waiting for that to cure. If that doesnt work then Clay has one on its way to my house. This might be where the power went. Sounds like the turbo is not spooling.

Also the smoke is still there and the P0281. Should I just have this one rebuilt or buy a new one.

Sounds like #7 is bad. The only other test I know of would be to remove the valve cover and start the engine. Watch the oil discharge from that injector compared to the others.

Several run rebuilt injectors with no issues, some have had issues. I wouldn't get one from Ford. If you want new, search Alliant power and find a dealer near you. If you want rebuilt, talk to Clay. Don't order a rebuilt from Pensacola diesel, no matter how good their prices seem.

I have sent my #7 injector to Clay. When I get the new one back I will let you know if this fixed the issue.

#7 is at 10%, #3 is at 0.7%, #5 is at 0.7%. I have replaced all o-rings on that side of the motor. I think its a bad #7 injector. What do you think. There is a post Dated May 2.

This was a late message I had sent to Chris. So dont get confused with it.

P281

I replaced Injector #7 and it now smokes more than it ever did. Also still pulls a p281 during con test. Buz test pass, KOER test passes.Rotational velocity still 10%. Does anyone think its rings. Smells like burning oil, but that could be the grease I put on the injedtor #7 when I put it in.

How many miles since you stuck the new injector in? It takes 50 - 100 miles to work the air out, and it will smoke a bunch when you first fire it up after an injector swap.

smoke Post P281

I did drive it around and the smoke is like it was before I replaced the injector. I did find a major oil leak at the turbo and a exhaust leak. The oil is hard to pin point where. Its hard to see around that area even with a mirror. But the oil leak is major. Is there a oil line for the turbo. Also the exhaust leak is at the exhaust side. Also oil is coming out the tail pipe. Should I pull the turbo?

P281 smoke

I did find the oil leak. It was the exhuast back presure. Replaced that now oil leak is gone. Still have blue smoke. Bought a temp gun and found that the drivers side at idle all holes are about 280 all cylinders, but passanger side front #1 was 195, #3 cylinder was 148, #5 was 134 and #7 was 125. What do I need to look at next.

What does the contribution test show now? Was the #7 injector new or rebuilt?
