Power Steering Fluid
Do I need a certain type of power steering fluid? I look at the department stores and all of the power steering fluids say they are comparable with Ford, Chevy and Dodge specifications but none of them specifically mention a fluid standard. I searched the forms and found a thread that specified MD-3 type fluid... Is this critical?

Mercon V syn. is what I used. No problems after a year.

mercon III or mercon V either will work and ok to mix in the p/s system.

Mobil1 ATF Syn works well. Funny thing...it smells just like Mercon SP.

I have some of the mercon SP...can i use that and mix in with my old steering fluid?...my level is a lil low...

I don't think I would. I think I remember a Tech saying not to ....... but then again that is just my memory ...

Save that Mercon SP for your tranny...too expensive to waste it, especially when that's all your tranny can use...other than LV. I would personally flush the system and use Mobil1 ATF Syn, or you could use Mercon V.

You can get the Mercon V in synthetic. Got mine at Pep Boys.
