my batter just died on me after 1 year. i was just wondering if any of you guys have specific battery preferences or not. i got a crap one from auto zone for about 60 bux and it fizzled out quick. thanks for responding in advance
Add a battery cutoff/disconnect switch. Keeps your battery from draining due to phantom draws & gremlins. I put one on my 66 Chevelle 10 years ago & the optima red-top is still tip top. Heck - I'd suggest cleaning up the battery, putting it on a slow charge & going through your cabling first. Check the terminal ends on the cables - if the wires look corroded at all just replace them. Otherwise clean the connections & especially the ground points (engine ground studs, etc) to make sure you've got good, clean, shiny to shiny connections. Put it all back together & see if your battery is really toasted. It might be more of an overall buildup of crud in your connections..... But put on a disconnect all the same!
I'm an Interstate fan, myself. Don't go cheap with a battery, you get what you pay for. And yes, if it sits for extended periods, get a battery disconnect switch or unhook it.
im guessing you bought a value craft batt from autozone? there is a big difference between those and the duralast model. i have worked for autozone for 5 years and i see ten times more valuecraft come back than the duralast. you should still have at least a prorated warranty, i'd go in there and use the credit they will give you for a duralast.

Got one that is six years, and three trucks old!
Still starts the 64 at -20F.
Olympia drycells also seem to work good. The price is insane though.
Interstate battery for a truck.................$120
Olympia drycell.......................................$200 !
I had a walmart battery start on fire by itself, and never seen a diehard that lasts more then 2 years.
Not knocking the autozone guy here..... but I have never seen one that lasts more than a year. Got one holding my shed door open!
To be honest i dont own a duralast myself, i have a interstate in my 92' ford and a optima in my 66' and both have served me well so far. but for the sake of saving a few bucks a upgrade to a better model wouldn't be a bad idea.
