2000 Ex V10,2wd what trans do I have? I just did a fluid change and want to be sure I used the right fluid (mercon v ). I bought this truck in 2004 with 78000 miles on it,it now has 177000 miles and the only issue it has had is tie rod ends which I replaced last month. I am repacking the front bearings this weekend. This has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I called the local ford dealer and they said that Mercon v was recomended, the Haynes manual said dont use it. searched the archives here and saw that it is used. JJust want to be sure I dont screw up this tranny, leaving FL for SC next week and cant afford
a disaster .will have pics up soon. thanks for your help.

MERCON V is the correct ATF. It used to be MERCON, but Ford discontinued MERCON and changed MERCON V to be compatible with the 4R100 that is in your truck.
thanks for the info guys,I feel better now,I got confused after I did the fluid change I checked the Haynes manual for the torque specs on the pan and torque converter drain plug and saw the caption that said do not use mercon V,according to the archives mercon v is what is recomended and that is what I followed. I'm glad to have found this forum ,I have been a member of the full size jeep forum for my 1980 j10 and did not know that one existed for the Excursion. Again ,thanks
p.s. any idea where I can get new interior components from, the seats are showing their age as well as the carpet, would kind of like to see about a king Ranch interior, what do you think?

thanks for the help, the only thing that concerns me is getting an accurate reading on the dipstick, I used 19 quarts of fluid, at 18 the dipstick only had fluid on one side of it,strange huh? at 19 both sides read but is a little over the full mark, this reading is after sitting all night and the engine off and cold. is there a replacement dipstick out there that is easier to read,I do have vision problems do to a recent stroke . I would like to find one with the white end on it. does it sound like my fluid level is OK ? 19 quarts sound right for a complete fluid change? thanks for your patients with me. and thanks for your help.
Yes sir I know that it should be checked with engine running and warm, I just checked all the fluids and that is what it read this morning. reads good when warmed up my main concern is being able to read the dipstick without help from another. I feel like an idiot asking somebody if they can come over and read my dipstick for me. Having trouble telling where the fluid is on the dipstick, is there a way to maybe paint the end white or use chalk without messing up the fluid? the oil I can read fine because of the color, its just the red tranny fluid that gives me trouble, and power steering. thanks

Sorry, my bad. By your post, I thought you were checking it cold with the engine off.
I've had to ask a buddy to read the level for me because for the life of me I couldn't see where it was on the stick.
