Pinging, knock or detonation (whatever you want to call it) is an entirely different phenominon, run the engine under no load on both fuels and there should be no difference.
Yep pretty hard to tell the before and after and may well be a placebo effect. Not like going to the eye doctor and getting the "better out of 1 orrrrrrrrrrr 2" treatment. But it kinda like you get use a sound and the sound of my 6.0 first starting out cold was always like racking your finger nail across a chalk board it just kinda of naws on you. Back in the old days when I use to run solid lifter cams in a few of my rods they would make a lot of noise but they would also sing and you could always tell when a rocker was out of adjustment because the song would change ever so much
I might go just a little further out on a limb here and say that when the dealership changed my oil (for the last time I might add) they put in 5 -30 oil. Without knowing they did it my mind told me there was something different about the sound of the engine. When I found out and had a little pissing match with them they gave me 15 QT's of 15-40 on the house and my ears where again happy. Again this may be a placebo effect but I pretty much think without more recording equipment that I care to waste my money on I will never know for sure but I do trust my instinct. Probably the only thing a guys can really trust.
After reading that report, maybe I'll switch from Diesel Kleen to Stanadyne. Also, should I be using the gray Diesel Kleen bottle in the warmer months, rather than continuing to use the white bottle? I'm in the Philadelphia area.

Yes if you trust that your fuel supplier is adding the proper mix of #1 for the time of year and you fill up frequently enough to have the proper fuel in. I run the gray bottle all year and I am in a much much colder region than you.
in the dead of winter it gets to the -20's here in the adirondack foothills and i have had excellent results with a mix of 4 oz's grey bottle diesel service,4oz's tech- 3 ashless 2 stroke'5 gallons of undyed hess kerosene and the balance diesel.absolutely no issues in 173,000 miles.

Ok, good to know. I'll pick up the grey bottle today and begin using it in the next tank. Thanks
Sorry, never heard of it but I do run the Motorcraft brand cetane booster (I've been told it's repackaged stanadyne but I don't know for sure) and I can tell a diff. in the sound of my truck using it. There is alot less "clack" when running it so it must be doing something. I have never compared fuel mileage with or without it so I can't say if it helps there but I believe in it.
Can anyone substantiate the link between Stanadyne and Motorcraft brand? I have read this several times.

Nevermind my last question. By looking at the MSDS for Stanadyne and Motorcraft I dont believe that they are the same product.
WOW, that test result speaks volumes to me. So is ALL bio-diesel the same as the bio-diesel they use? the only problem is that you have to carry a large container to get that mix ratio. I wonder if 2 stroke synthetic is better than the Walmart stuff they used? I think I'm going to start using 2 stroke or something. Funny they never tried tranny fluid, because that's another product rumored to be a great additive for diesel. Altho my diesel mechanic buddy told me tranny fluid is heavier and tends to settle in the tank, rather than mix.

WOW. I have been in Alaska for 14 years and I have never done all of that nonsense.
