I have a 1965 F-856 Ford truck with a 477SD 4V engine and a Spicer 5 speed trans. On the door id plate it has 88 under axle code? Does anyone know what rear end that could possible be??
Wow! That is very helpfull info. Thank you for your quick response. That is a pretty steep gear for hwy use. What was the highest gear that they made for that axle?? Did they make something like a 4.88 or higher for it? That would be alot better for hwy use than what is in there now.

4.33 / 4.56 / 4.88 / 5.29 / 5.57 / 6.14 / 6.50 / 7.17 and etc.
You have to consider the times. Back then, the speed limit for most big trucks was 45 MPH ... nationwide, and that was during the day.
I just have to say: You could charge for information like that!
My wife once said something like this. "Start a website and charge for the info."
I told her: "After being in this nutty hobby for 50 years, I discovered long ago that most ppl are so cheap, they wouldn't pay a nickel to watch an ant eat a bale of hay!"

While that's true of course, the advent of electronic payments means that people are slightly more willing to click [Send $5 by PayPal now!] than they are to reach into their back pocket.
