Coolant Filter report

After 1000 miles cut it open to check. Found about 1/2 tsp
of sand between what was laying in the bottom of cannister
and what I could have scraped off the filter. Probably
should have waited longer but I couldn't resist checking.

Even new there doesn't seem to be much flow thru the filter.
It just comes out a steady small stream.

Does 1/2 tsp in 1000 miles sound about normal for the 6.0?

Curious about other experiences.

Sorry folks for no pics. I have dial-up.

Only got about 300 miles on mine still going. When I installed it the degass bottle had a very fine film of black silt on the bottom and I do believe it is starting to disappear. I thought I read somewhere that was iron. If it isn't gone in a month or so I am going to pull the degass bottle and wash it out. Anyway drained about 2 gallons out of the radiator to do my fuel pressure regulator job and not a drop of sand in the bucket maybe I am one of the lucky ones.

My first filter was completely blocked in 350 miles, filter 2 went to a 1000 miles and filter three is trucking along at 5000 miles.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Some of the sand etc. is like toothe paste and is in the filter fabric.

Possible depending on the color. Iron is usually darker in color. Stick a magnet in it and see what gets picked up. Dead give-away.

Rubbed a magnet around in there and while some of it stuck to it it may be because I rubbed it on it. Wiped it off on a paper towel and we'll see what it does when it dries. Out of beer now so off to the store

Did you do a coolant flush first?
Some of that sand lands in your heater. Open it up and drive around for awhile. The weather is crazy here right now at least you will not cook.

My first filter went about 300 miles, it was packed with what looked like orange sandy mud.

2nd half about half the amount of the first. 500 miles

3rd had just a bit of fine sand in the bottom. 1000 miles

4th had nothing after 6 months
