Has anyone had any expirence with Universal Tires ? I'm looking for bias ply tires and was looking at their web site and the price is right. But I dont know anyone that has used them. I've looked at Coker Tire and also like their Firestones.
Bias ply tires. Is this for a concours restoration or are you driving this truck? If concours and you trailer this thing like Mustang showcars then bias ply is needed for judging. Yet, if driven, you couldn't pay me to drive with bias ply tires ever again. Follow every crack in the the road. Go where they want to go rather than where I want them to go. When I put my Cougar away in 1972, due to getting a company car, that foreign car had radials. The Cougar had it's tires replaced not long after that. If that is your thing then can't help you since I know of no one who has bought bias ply for their vehicle. Otherwise stick to radials just for the safety.
I figured I was going to get some gripe when I mentioned bias ply tires.....oh well. Just want to know if anyone has heard anything good or bad about the Universal brand.
I have not heard of the brand your talking about, But! i did buy bias ply tires for my 65 when i first got it, 7.00 X 15 was the size. i can tell you it was the WORST tire buy i ever made! they are lumpy when cold and do not track worth a damn. go ahead and buy them if you want, but, i will never do it again.

I think first you would have to find someone who has even bought bias ply tires. Means going all the way back to the 70's. My father would count at 84 and probably NumberDummy, but you didn't hear me state an age for him
Given that it would be a safe bet that anybody under 50 probably never bought a set of bias ply tires. Now I am very familiar with the name Corker but have never known anyone to buy OEM style tires from them other than Polyglas replicas for show. I think it will be difficult as I just checked 4 other forums for info on even Corker and turned up nothing.
To be polite, I would put his age at close to 100, but I have reason to believe he fought in the Civil War.
Mike-
Maybe IF you had looked for Coker instead of Corker?? I have Coker tire Firestone Deluxe Champion 4-ply Gum Dipped tires on the '41 H-D. Coker also makes radials that LOOK like bias ply.

Got some info on Coker. They bought the used old molds of the major tire makers back when. Those molds are light years behind the ones of today. They then farm out the making of the tires which they don't do themselves. Therefore there is now a question as to the quality of the rubber mix and everything else that goes into the tire. The concours guys said a few of them bought Polyglas repros from them for shows but wouldn't risk their car in them. One who did said they wore out very fast. They were also very enthusiastic about a company called Diamondback for old style tires. Again not one of them have dealt with Universal Tire.
