Painted Grille

Hey I wanted to know if anyone has painted their factory grille. Mine is black right now but I always wondered what silver would look like considering there is chrome around the grille.

A quick shot of spray paint will answer your question, if not then spray it back to black.

I would recommend a very thorough cleaning, when it comes to prep you might also want to take a extremely fine grit sand paper to it, though seeing as it's plastic probably not.

Mine's silver, but it's not painted that I'm aware of. It's just faded from years of sun and weather.

I've seen factory-issue chrome grilles for these trucks before, but I don't know how long the chrome coating lasts. I might pick one up from my local junkyard, though I'm leaning more towards blacking mine out like yours.

For your truck, black or chrome only, nothing else will work good IMHO.

I have never seen an all Chrome grille offered from factory. On my new grille which I think is the top of the line, only about 25% of the grille is chrome, the other 75% being Silver(Argent?).The face is Chrome, but the insets are silver.

There were 6 different grilles for this year range of trucks.

Three for the 1980-1981 style, and three for the 1982-1986 style.

Colors were,

A: Chrome grille with painted argent (Silver) sections. None of the grilles were 100% chrome.

B: Argent painted grille (Silver) example in post #3

C: all black grille.

The headlamp doors also came in chrome with either argent or black painted sections as well, or all black on the XLS.

Hope this helps.
