Picked up 100hp...
Stuff like injectors and about every sensor on the thing
I went with a Dynomax y-pipe with hi-flow cat and cat-back exhaust. It really sounds pretty good with the little bumpier Mustang cam, and it has power it hasn't seen in years. All told, I have about $2000 in it and it feels like a completely different truck. Not to mention gas mileage went from 5-6 to 14.45 on the last tank Some highlights from the job:
1. Cleaning the intake: Found out nothing works better than a gallon of carb cleaner. Seal up your TB and EGR openings, plug your vacuum tree and pcv openings, flip it upside down and fill it up and let it sit.
2: The trans: Got it from Consolidated transmission in Orlando. They sell on Ebay and I picked it up for $150 less than they sell for regularly. $629 for that and I got the clutch set from them for $130.
3. Be careful when reinstalling the knock sensor
4. The exhaust: The Dynomax stuff fits pretty good. The Y Pipe went on very easily ($209 locally), the cat-back ($184 from Summit) was just a little worse, but it fits pretty well.
5. The injectors: If in doubt, get new ones. To expensive you say? KarKraft sells very low mileage take outs for $89 a set. They claim they have under 10 miles on them.
6. Gaskets: This was the first time I used a Felpro Permadry oil pan gasket. little more money than some, but a breeze to install
Its molded around metal so you can't really over tighten it. I reused the valve cover gaskets and they seem fine.7. Timing set: I was just about to use a Cloyes Multi index set I had bought for a 306 I had built a while back for one of my Mustangs when I found out you can get a Cloyes double roller set for 20 bucks. No need to use a high dollar multi index when you can get a nice one for that.
8. Oil pump: Pull the cover off for the hell of it. I bought a Melling and found a nice chunk of casting that was about to break off and likely get jammed in there. I took mine back and bought a Sealed Power...17 dollars. While I was at it I replaced the pickup tube, 13 bucks for that, ain't even worth cleaning the old one for that
I don't know how many twisted oil pump shafts I've seen on Mustangs, so I used a FRPP chromoly one, thats about 13 bucks too. 9. Motor Mounts: Mine were bad! I couldn't believe how cheap they were. I don't recall exactly, but I believe they were under 20 dollars for the pair.
10. Slave cylinder: Basically if it's leaking or not, replace it. $60 not to have to take the transmission out is worth it.
