Well I finally got around to swaping the HUGE can of stock muffler for a Dynomax Super Turbo. #17792 3" in/out offset and 3" internal flow tubes. 5 1/2" x 11" x 16" long. I chose this muffler because it is the one Dynomax uses on their cat-back system for the 05-06 V8/V10. Why buy the whole cat-back when all ya need is the muffler? The muffler was $70 while the cat-back was $255.
First I removed the stock muffler and tailpipe in one piece. I had to jack up the rear of the truck to get the pipe from around the axle. I then installed the Dynomax muffler with a short tailpipe with a turn down temporarally. I wanted to see how the muffler sounded before comitting to cutting up the stock system. It sounded OK. Has a burble at idle and quiet at speed. Time to slaughter the stock system. Here are some pics of the stock pipes welded to the Dynomax.
I had to add about 8" to the tail pipe. It is 3" while the tailpipe is 3 1/2".
Installed on truck.
I made a hanger to use the stock mufler supports.
Gotta have a big shinny tip. 4 1/2"
It didn't change the sound too much adding the tailpipe. Still has a burble at idle and accelerating. No ricer roar but no V8 rumble. She quiets down at speed and no drone. Time to put some miles on her to see if it was worth anything. It's has to do something. The stock muffler had so many baffels in it.
good one man. starting to play now.
only i still have a full stock system in stock should i need it . fm70 sounds ok also. man bending stainless is a royal pia .
