need some info, i have a 1995 5.8 EFI thats shot, wondering what different long blocks i can go with through out the years thats my efi setup is compatible with, like whats interchangable over the years, difference between a 95 5.8 and say an 80's model 5.8? and then also which vehicles year ranges can i get a donor motor from thats drop in and go?
The 5.8/351 never changed so you could use any longblock in your truck but to get the same package you have now you'll want a '94+ truck motor, all earlier motors have flat tappet cams and everything between 1974 and 1986 have worse heads.
Yes a '92 5.8 has a flat tappet cam and no you don't need mass air to use a '94+ roller motor... the motor in your truck right now has a roller cam in it.
not exactly since the oil pan would be different as would the oil pickup tube. but honestly you should be changing the oil pump before installing a used motor anyway.
