08 F450

Hey guys, looking at an 08 F450 for my uncle tomorrow was wondering what to look for in a used 6.4? I have already obtained oasis and all maintenance records, just a radiator replaced at 6k miles nothing too bad. Truck has 28k miles and dealer is askin $41k for it. Very clean truck inside and out. (other than drool from me) I'm a 6.0 guy myself and thats all I really know to be honest but I personally think the 450 is the best lookin Super Duty out there, man I love em
Thanks for the help guys...

Really just oil leaks and look for evidence of black soot in the tailpipe (shouldn't be any).

The asking price is high, I paid 33 at a Ford dealer last june mine came with 14,000 miles on it and is a Lariet, but a 2x4. Look on Ebay to get an idea of truck prices. I had and 08 F350 swr and needed more truck, and I found it.

look at the degas bottle, ensure it is gold coolant and between the lines on the bottle. Ensure the venturi-T recall was completed. Should show on the oasis, but look at the degas bottle. Venturi-T connects to the lower hose on the bottle. check the connection and it will show arrows on how it should route.

Look at the frame and seams of the radiator for any new signs of leaks.

When was the last oil change and fuel filter change?

Do oil changes at 5k and fuel at 10K.

Thank you, all recalls as stated were done. Truck is mint inside and out I've noticed these trucks love to rust especially underside. Same issue with my 05

Hello Sammy, not sure if your uncle has already purchased this truck or not. Agree with all the above for things to check. I bought my 2008 F-450 about a month and a half ago (traded up from a 350). Just wanted to chime in about how much I enjoy this truck and I hope your uncle has good luck with it. I went from a 04 to the 08 and can't believe the extra "get up and go" and how quiet it is.

Thank you guys, truck is clean with no issues, as of last nite he is still trying to negotiate better price. $40k There are no used 450's here so thats not helping his negotiating...

You might try looking on cars.com and don't be afraid to drive a little to get it. I drove from Minnesota to Missouri for mine. On this web site you can find the closest ones to your zip code. Don't be afraid to look for 09's or even 2010 trucks you will be surprised how many are in that price range on line. One thing that hasn't been talked about is the rear end. A lot of 08 450's have the 4.88 rear end gears, mine does. This was discontinued in 09 for what ever reason. These trucks do run down the highway at a higher rpm which may mean they use more fuel and regen more often, again it does in my case.

I know MPG's are an issue with the 6.4 in general, but then again it is a 450.

Everyone here has brought up very good things to look out for. The only things I could add would be to have the batteries load tested, as several of us have had to replace batteries early. Also look for any white smoke issues when humid out, i.e. the intercooler fix. As for the price, sounds to me like the dealer thinks he has you cornered. 40k is way too high for a used 08, even one in mint condition with as little miles as this one. Think of what you would get if you brought that truck in to trade for a '11? Not much. I would do like others here have suggested by looking at eBay Motors and other places to see what they are going for. Good luck.
