I'm looking to replace the firewall insulation pad under the dash. I believe I have determined that a replacement can not be sourced anywhere so I must make my own.
I've Googled a bit, searched SUmmit Racing's site, etc. and have not found a suitable material to make a new one out of. All I keep seeing are the foil-backed insulation pads, felt/fiber hood insulation materials, and the like.
I'm looking for a thick, black, rubber or vinyl backed insulator material I can use (similar to what the OEM is made out of). Any ideas on where to look or what to use?
I would suggest a MLV barrier... It's good for insulation and noise and better than OEM stuff. OEM stuff is usually cheap rubber that doesn't do much for sound and heat. I actually found a site a while back and have done a couple cars like the site suggests and you can definatly tell the difference in the cabs of our old pickups (as far as AC/HEat retention, and a heat barrier as well as noise reduction! I'd definetly go with CDL tiles closed cell foam and MLV as a tripple threat to get the best results. You can find these things on the web site below or you can find them in an online search...
I realize this site is for sound deadening your car but the products also work great for firewall insulators as well!!!!
