Bought a 06 F-250 Lariat PSD with 73k miles a couple of weeks ago with an undocumented service history. This weekend changed the oil/oil filter (Rotella T6 5W-40), added a fumoto, changed fuel filters, changed air filter, replaced the HFCM drain plug with the updated type, cleaned EGR valve, replaced rear diff fluid and swapped diff cover with the 08+ aluminum version. EGR valve was lightly coated with carbon deposits and body was pretty clean....not wet at all. Cleaned it up and replaced gasket and o-rings. All fluids and filters looked OK. Pulled the OASIS and the only warranty service completed was replacement of the HPOP STC. Going to try and see if it was replaced with the one piece version.
Rear diff only took 3 quarts (which is also about what I took out of it). I scooped the fluid out of the bottom of the case and was on level ground. I know the spec says 3.45 quarts....is this typical? Used Mobil 1 75W-140 and didn't have any chatter around corners so haven't added XL-3 modifier yet.
Next on the list is either a transmission flush or just a drain and external filter replacement. Also going to add a coolant filter next month and flush. Eventually going to get an Insight and a fuel pressure gauge.
So far so good. Picking up the new 5th wheel this weekend. Thanks for everyone here for the great information.
Sounds like a good buy Jason! I especially like to hear that EGR valves look clean and dry - it should mean that combustion has been good. You are on a great start for maintenance. Think hard about getting your gauges soon and best of luck for many miles of reliability!
Sounds like you did your homework... You may want to consider changing the antifreeze early and flush and fill with distilled water and fords gold coolant. There is a procedure on doing this process here that was originally documented by Beachbumcook that take you step by step so do a search it you havent' already read it.
Wasn't too bad. Took about half a day on Sunday. Longest part was waiting for the RTV to setup in the diff so it could be filled. Sound OK that the the punkin only took 3 quarts?
Looking forward to flushing the coolant and installing the filter.

If the oil level is at the bottom of the fill hole you can't get any better than that.
I changed rear diff fluid a couple weeks back and also used the Mobile 1 75-140 w/out the additional friction modifier. No chatter/scuffing here either.

The M1 bottle says "LS" (assuming Limited Slip) on the label but doesn't really specify that it has a friction modified in it although it seems that it does.
