Headers 352

I was wondering what kind of headers you guys would recomend that I get on my 65' F-250 4x4 with a 352 and a 4 speed. I know there aren't a lot of applications for my truck. I don't want to spend $500 on a set of headers either. I just want a good quality header that will last and not give me a butload of problems.

Well I think you have an oxymoron on your hands.

"I don't want to spend $500 on a set of headers either. I just want a good quality header that will last and not give me a butload of problems."

I think you can keep from spending that kind of money fairly easy. The best thing I can think to do is contact Stans Headers or FPA. They both make good tri-Y headers tha should work well for you. the key thing to do is whne you cantact them is have your head casting #'s ready. Tell them the casting # and ask them if they have a flange that works well with that casting#.

The reason I say have casting # ready is this. Around 65 Ford changed the location of the exhuast port. I think they moved it down(anyone?). And, some of the early headers don't fit right, causing blown head gaskets. It is imparitive that you use a good quality header. I have heard bad things about Hooker and some of the other Major brands. They knbow of the problems, but basically refuse to do anything about them. they will tell you the headers will work yada yada. They will bolt on. But they require some, not serious, but dedicated work to mount and seal properly.

If you are looking for a dirt cheap header with fairly good quality I would go with the flowtechs. I love mine. They were 99 bucks from either summit or autozone. They don't compare to the sanderson or stans so if you are looking for something prettier that will last a longer I would go that route.

MWC4275 - you can do a search for posts by myself and/or headers, and find a whole bunch of info. If you have stock 352 heads you can probably get by with more typical aftermarket headers (I'm in WI and have an unsed(actually unusable to me) set of DynoMax Hot Coated headers I'd sell (PM me).The guys at the exhaust shop who did the pipes and mufflers were very impressed with quality of the FPA headers I ended up with (3rd try was a charm).
Good Luck

Why are you unable to use the Dynomax Headers on your truck? I might be interested in getting them from you. I live in Washington, so it might cost a bit to send something that big. Has anyone here tryed Heddman Headers?

I use hedman headers on my truck, 70 f100 2wd w/ a 360. They bolted right up and work great. 1 year so far and no rust.

hey mwc4275 - take just a minute and either search the word Headers (over 7000 hits) or my user name CACWBY and you will find a lot of usefull info. Many headers bolt up and don't leak, but often the exhaust ports on headers are smaller than heads. Get a good gasket that you know matches the ports on your heads, then when headers get there put that gasket on the header. If using stock heads and not E Brock, you'll probably have less problems getting good match up. The FPA ones are really nice.
Enjoy -

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to try a set of Hedman Headers. They're cheap, and have heard nothing bad about them so far. I don't have the cash to go with the Elite headers, so I'll stick with the basic. What type of gaskets have you guys found that work well for our FE's. I've heard that people have problems with the copper gaskets getting to seal, but that could just be the operators too. Any imput would be useful.

I use Fel-Pro on mine. Doesn't leak. Make sure you get the collector on right, or it will blow out the collector gasket. Good luck!
