I need some help and advice. Just got the my 74 302 back from being rebuilt. Everything is hooked up as I remember and as the Ford Shop Manual instructions read. My problem is no spark. What should I double check? Thanks
Double check to make sure you are getting power to your ignition module (if it is duraspark), if it's points, check to make sure your points are set right.
On the ign. module, unplug the two prong plug, and on the firewall side of the plug, I believe the white wire should have power with the key in the run position. If that is good, check your pickup in the dizzy. Get a volt meter and check the resistance between the two "hot" wires. What I mean is, there are three wires in the plug on the pick up side, one of those wires is ground. Check the resistance across the two that are not the ground wires. I believe between 700-900 ohms is what is should be (someone can correct me on that).
Other than that, you can check your coil. It's always a good to have spares of all three of those, and they aren't expensive at all.
Connect a test light from the negative terminal of the coil to clean, unpainted metal on the engine. This must be done with the coil still connected. Climb back in the cab and crank the engine over, and the light should BLINK. This is true for points or Duraspark. Report your results.
