front axle seal
I am leaking oil from the front axle tube. When I went in to get a seal for the inner axle seal I was told that there were two an inner by the pumpkin and one by the hub. Is this correct? if so does that mean that both seal are out?

There is a seal(inner)on both sides of the pumpkin.There is one knuckle seal and dust seal on each side.
To change the inner seals you must pull the shafts and the pumpkin.I have changed the inner seals.The hardest part is getting the new seals in straight.

I just had the front ujoints replaced on my 1999 f250 4wd. Talking with the owner of the driveline shop, I found out that the outer seal is just to keep dirt and large debris from the axle tube and does not "seal" oil. If you have oil leaking then it is coming from an inner seal. Just like the last poster said, you have to pull the internal components of the pumpkin to access the seals.

You may want to check the breader hose that runs from your axel to the frame sometimes the clip that holds it will close the hose and it will build up pressure, mine was also seeping but after cleaning the hose it stopped.
These seal very rarely go bad.
