SO i drop a 91 inline into my 86, finally get the girl running, but i can only put in gear when the engine is off. The firewall where the the slave cylinder is, has a big crack and is beging to peel. Is there any kind of firewall repair kit? Thanks for yall help
ford had a repair kit, there's a tsb on it, you'll have to do a search on here for it, it is a plate you remove the 2 master cyls and put it on the firewall, then reinstal everything.
There is a guy on another site called oilburners, that is reproducing the plates for sale. Look in the 6.9/7.3 idi forum on that board, and search for firewall plates or re-enforcement plate.
Here are the Ford part #'s so you know what to look for. These turn up on Ebay from time to time.
Or you could try one of this sites sponsors like partsguyed.com
Clutch master cyl reinforcement bracket for moderately damaged firewall:
I believe Ford discontinued making the plates, but you may find one laying around at a dealership somewhere, or like was said, used on ebay. That's why the other guy jumped in and started making them. If your firewall is already cracked, you will need the big plate. The small plate is considered a preventative measure to prevent the cracking.
Ed's site is showing both p/n's with prices.
If they were NLA in his system I don't believe they would show up at all..
Showing $14.00 for the small one and $168.26 for the "severe damage" one.
The small plate "for moderately damaged firewall" fixed my truck, and didn't require removal of the brake booster.
