351m/400, same timing chains?

351m/400, same timing chains?
I bought a S.A.GEAR performance timig set for my 400. Went to install the timing set and the crank gear would only go partially onto the crank, their is a .005 step on the crank and that is where it stops. I measured the old gear and there is a .005 difference in inside diameter. What Gives?
Do the 351m/400 use the same timing sets?
